Modelica'2002: Call for Papers

by Administrator last modified 2006-10-17 05:37 PM

2nd International Modelica Conference
Monday March 18 and Tuesday March 19, 2002

German Aerospace Center (DLR), Munich, Germany
Organized by the Modelica Association and DLR

Call for Papers

Deadline for Abstract: December 1, 2001
send abstract to: modelica2002@dlr.de

The Modelica modeling language has been designed to allow convenient and efficient modeling and simulation of complex, multi-domain physical systems described by differential and algebraic equations, aiming at full system simulation. Since December 2000, version 1.4 of the Modelica language definition is available together with many free Modelica libraries, as well as commercial Modelica simulation environments. Convenient interfaces are available for Matlab and Simulink (with Dymola) and to Mathematica (with MathModelica). The language, libraries and tools are used by a growing number of people in industry and academia for advanced applications, such as detailed fuel cell simulations, power systems, full vehicle dynamics models, hardware-in-the-loop simulations, embedded control systems with nonlinear Modelica models.

In October 2000, the first Modelica workshop took place in Lund, Sweden. Due to the great success, with more than 80 participants, this event will be repeated in March 2002, to bring together people interested in Modelica, Modelica language designers, Modelica  tool vendors and Modelica library developers. This gives you the opportunity to be informed about the latest developments, to influence the future development of Modelica and its libraries and to get in touch with people solving similar modeling problems as yourself. The conference is planned for about 100 - 120 participants and will cover the topics such as the following:

  • Modelica tutorials in parallel for beginners and for advanced users.
  • free and commercial Modelica libraries
(mechanics, electrical, hydraulics, thermal, thermo-fluid, chemical, building, automotive, aircraft, ...)
  • modeling and simulation with Modelica
  • coupling to material property data bases
  • hardware-in-the-loop simulation
  • embedded control systems
  • automatic feedforward and feedback linearization of Modelica models
  • optimization
  • symbolic algorithms for model transformations
  • Modelica modeling and simulation tools
  • Modelica in other application areas (mathematical programming, databases etc.).
  • User's Group Meetings of Dymola and MathModelica.
  • Modelica Award for the 2 best free Modelica libraries (500 + 250 Euro).

Preliminary program:

Sunday, March 17
17:00 - 19:00 Registration, get together, beverages, snacks

Monday, March 18

8:30 -   9:00 Registration
9:00 - 12:15

Modelica tutorials with hands on experience in two parallel sessions
(exercises can be carried out on your own notebook; needed software is provided):

  • Tutorial 1 for beginners with little or no experience in Modelica

  • Tutorial 2 for advanced users with working knowledge in Modelica. Topics:
New features in Modelica 2.0; how to organize advanced Modelica libraries and models; special problems such as material property handling, initialization, variable index systems, redundant equations. You can bring your own modeling problems with you and discuss it with Modelica specialists.

12:15 - 13:30 Lunch
13:30 - 18:00 Session 1
18:00 - 19:00 User's Group Meetings in parallel (Dymola, MathModelica)
If you would like to organize an additional user's group meeting, contact modelica2002@dlr.de
19:30 - 23:00 Dinner

Tuesday, March 19
8:30 - 12:15 Session 2

13:30 - 15:45 Session 3
15:45 - 16:00 Award for the 2 best free Modelica libraries (500 + 250 Euro).
A separate call for this award will be sent out soon. With the exception of the members of the Modelica Association and their respective organizations, everyone can apply for this award, even if the Modelica conference is not attended.
16:00 - 16:45 Visit of German Space Operating Center (GSOC)

You are encouraged to submit an extended abstract of at least 600 words, outlining the material you propose to present. This abstract should be sent by email in postscript or PDF format to the program chair (modelica2002@dlr.de) no later than Saturday, December 1, 2001. On Monday, December 10, you will be notified about acceptance and the final program will be published. Full papers with a maximum length of 10 pages which arrive at latest on Friday, March 1, will be published in printed form as the conference proceedings, and will also be stored on a downloadable area at the Modelica Homepage (www.modelica.org). All full papers have to be in postscript or PDF format. Author instructions for the full papers are available here.

Hotels
Rooms have been reserved at the following hotels (refer to "Modelica Conference"). The reservation options are valid until end of December 2001. Since it is usually difficult to get a hotel room in the Munich area, it is highly advised to reserve a room far in advanced. A free bus service will be organized from these hotels to DLR. The dinner on Monday evening will take place in one of the hotels in Herrsching:
