Call for Papers

Deadline for extended abstract submission:
extended to Monday, December 6, 2004
send abstract to: modelica2005@modelica.org

The Modelica modeling language has been designed to allow convenient and efficient modeling and simulation of complex, multi-domain physical systems described by differential and algebraic equations, aiming at full system simulation. Since March 2004, version 2.1 of the Modelica language definition has been available together with many free Modelica libraries, as well as commercial and open source Modelica simulation environments. Convenient interfaces are available for Matlab and Simulink (with Dymola) and to Mathematica (with MathModelica). The language, libraries and tools are used by a growing number of people in industry and academia for advanced applications, such as detailed fuel cell simulations, power systems, full vehicle dynamics models, hardware-in-the-loop simulations, embedded control systems with nonlinear Modelica models.

In October 2000, the first Modelica workshop took place in Lund, Sweden. Since then the International Modelica Conference has been held every 18 months with a growing number of participants. In 2005, Technical University Hamburg-Harburg was chosen as location for the 4th International Modelica Conference. It will bring together people interested in Modelica, Modelica language designers, Modelica tool vendors and Modelica library developers. The conference provides Modelica users the opportunity to stay informed about the latest language and library developments and to get in touch with people working on similar modeling problems. The conference is planned for about 150-200 participants and will cover topics such as the following:

  • Modeling and simulation with Modelica
  • Free and commercial Modelica libraries (mechanics, electrical, hydraulics, thermal, fluid, media, chemical, building, automotive, aircraft, ...)
  • Industrial applications
  • Coupling to material property data bases
  • Hardware-in-the-loop simulation
  • Embedded control systems
  • Automatic feedforward and feedback linearization of Modelica models
  • Optimization
  • Symbolic algorithms for model transformations
  • Modelica modeling and simulation tools
  • Modelica in other application areas (mathematical programming, databases etc.)

In addition to traditional sessions the conference will include:

  • Modelica tutorials for different levels of modeling experience
  • Presentations from commercial and free Modelica tool vendors
  • User's group meetings
  • Poster session
  • Modelica Award for the 2 best free Modelica libraries (500 + 250 Euro)

Paper submission:

You are encouraged to submit an extended abstract of 2 pages, outlining the material you propose to present or a full paper of maximum length of 10 pages. The paper in PDF format should be sent to the program chair (modelica2005@modelica.org) by email no later than Monday, December 6, 2004. Your extended abstract will be reviewed by at least two members of the Technical Program Committee. On December 13, 2004 you will be notified about acceptance and the final program will be published. Please note, that only papers which are related to the Modelica language are accepted. Accepted full papers with a maximum length of 10 pages which arrive at latest on Monday, January 31, 2005 will be published in printed form in the conference proceedings, and will also be stored in a downloadable area on the Modelica Homepage (www.modelica.org). Papers received after January 31, 2005 will not be published in printed form. A CD-ROM with conference proceedings will be released.

For the preparation of accepted papers or a full paper draft please use the given templates and follow the guidelines in order to ensure a high quality publication. Both can be found here.

Important dates:

Extended abstract submission: Monday, December 6, 2004
Acceptance notification: Monday, December 13, 2004
Final paper: Monday, January 31, 2005
Conference: Monday, March 7 - Tuesday, March 8, 2005

Library submission:

You are encouraged to submit a Modelica application library. The library is submitted in Modelica source code form. Submission must include documentation explaining the purpose, class hierarchy diagram, derivation of equations, and validation procedure. Submission should include at least one simple and one complex example in source code form with explanations. The library home page should be published on the Internet. The library should be sent by email to the program chair (modelica2005@modelica.org) no later than Monday, December 6, 2004. On Monday, December 13, 2004 you will be notified about acceptance. Accepted libraries which arrive at latest on Monday, January 31, 2005 will be considered as candidates for award by the conference Program Committee. With the exception of the members of the Modelica Association and their respective orgaizations, everyone can apply for this award. Links to home pages of accepted libraries will be placed on the Modelica home page (www.modelica.org). Accepted libraries will be included in the conference CD-ROM.
