Project Description
The MotorcycleDynamics library aims to simulate the behaviour of wheeled vehicles and their control systems. This library has been developed for the dynamic simulation of a motorcycle, and tailored to test and validation of active control systems for motorcycle dynamics.
A validation process has also been performed, comparing simulation results with experimental data from a properly instrumented KTM 950 Adventure motorcycle.
The library is made up of several sub-packages, containing models for:
- the parts of motorcycle body (front/rear suspensions, chassis, rear swinging arm, wheels,...);
- the tyre-road interaction (definition of contact forces balances and translation of point of contact);
- the friction formulas (linear and Pacejka),
- the roads (with different frictions maps and shapes);
- the drivers (with one or two degree of freedom);
- the controllers (ABS braking system, speed control,...)
- the examples of how to use this library (i.e. panic brake experiment for ABS equipped and non ABS equipped motorycles, motorcycle following a specific trajectory,...)
